The Unseen Benefits of Underfloor Audio

Visible speakers are not always an option. Some rooms have no wall for boxes, and some interiors cannot take a rack in the sightline. Underfloor audio puts the transducers in the floor so the room stays visually clean.
What it is
Drivers sit under the finished floor. Output depends on the floor build, room volume, and how the system is equalised — not on hiding a random speaker and hoping. Desert Sound designs each layout from those measurements.
Why people specify it
- No speaker boxes or cable runs on the wall
- Cleaner interiors for homes, showrooms, and modern apartments
- Safer around kids and pets — nothing to tip or yank
- Floor and wall space stay free for furniture
Even coverage is the acoustic reason. A pair of wall speakers often makes hot and dead spots. Underfloor systems are meant to spread energy across the room for background and social audio. They are a fit for lounges, showrooms, and some entertainment rooms. A dedicated cinema still needs a proper speaker layout; underfloor is not a substitute for a centre channel and surrounds.
Control and upkeep
We integrate with Control4, Crestron, and other platforms you already run, plus phone and voice. Scenes such as dinner or movie can include the floor system with lighting. Multi-room playback is the usual next step.
Parts sit protected from casual knocks. Moisture and point-load at the floor still matter — those get checked at design, not after. After install: checks, fault-finding, and room to add zones.
Underfloor audio is a design choice with a survey behind it. See smart home installation if you want it on the same control layer as the rest of the house, or contact Desert Sound to assess the floor.
